Singing Classes

"Every person is an instrument in the orchestra which is the whole universe, and every voice is the music that comes from one of its instruments"

Hazrat Inayat Khan

We are our own best instrument

Ancients understood the world is sound. Quantum mechanics is proving that the whole universe vibrates at a frequency. Plato acknowledged sound as a basis in the universe saying ‘Music is the movement of sound to reach the soul for the education of its virtue.’

When we are born the 1st cry, let's everyone know we are alive. Our voice is a unique vehicle and communicator of both our innate power and creative potential. Every groan, sigh, and the murmur is nature's way to release tension and stress, making space for new possibilities to exist and inhabit in our world. We are revealed through our sounds, words, and the quality and fullness of our delivery.

Sounding and singing is natural in our youth. From young ages, we coo, chuckle, blow our lips creating soundscapes of joy and pleasure. As we learn socially acceptable sound levels and norms, there is conformity that can stunt and repress. Many people develop negativity about their ability to sing and how they sound. The voice can get cloaked and squashed in stories, beliefs, habits, and patterns. We can listen and take on board other opinions about how we sound or communicate. Our voice impacts and expresses layers of confidence, self-esteem, stress levels, and emotional well being. Often students in groups say they can’t sing, yet as soon as they start singing with others they merge with the majority and make wonderful sounds.

Working therapeutically with our voices, through sounding and singing allows us the opportunity to become an instrument and tune-up and resonate aspects of ourselves. We can begin to harmonize, giving a voice and life to disowned parts of ourselves. On the journey toward wholeness, making our sound a priority and using our voice as a tool for deepening communications, is key to becoming more authentic in our relationship with ourselves and others.

Health

Singing takes us out of the mundane and acceptable, it supports our health, mind, body, and spirit. It's an instant mood enhancer, affecting stress levels as we release the body's natural feel good chemicals, endorphins, and oxytocin.

Testimonials

I can recommend Siri as a truly inspirational teacher for people who want to re-discover the child like pleasure of singing as part of a group. Siri's superb and confident use of the call and response training method taps into fundamental learning techniques in a satisfying and productive way. The challenge of learning the lyrics and tune in this way was demanding and at the same time more deeply fulfilling than I would have expected. Prepare to have you life enriched!
